My mother has endured
repeated injections into her good eye
rounds of infections in one part or another
with eventual antibiotics and recovery.
The loss of sight, strength, and clarity
(still retaining the ability to talk to me).
Pain has dwelled in her joints and muscles
deep restorative sleep eludes her
a whole litany of diagnoses
yet she remains with us
and even cheerful sometimes.
If she can do that, I can do this
live each day as if it were the last…
and the next….
