NEW YEAR’S EVE SURGERY: From a Poetic Journal
I gave this short collection to all members of my medical team prior to having a double mastectomy in 2007. It turned what could have been a very dry medical experience into a very healing and human one. Handing them out started conversations, allowing me to say what I needed to say. I had a feeling of connection and reduced anxiety. Members of my team also signed my copy (my sister’s idea). Later I read their heartfelt comments supporting me.
Directions for assembly: Print the PDF, then cut the paper in half longwise. The first and last pages are the front and back covers, respectively. If you wish, place front and back covers facing outward and then fasten (staple) at the top. Or leave it as is. I decorated the original copies with glitter sticker streamers and stars, like New Year’s Eve.

This is the first in a series of paperbacks small enough to fit in your pocket. For now, you can have your own free copy as a PDF (13 poems with 3 color photos). |
